81 combinations started the dressage phase representing 10 countries, with a record 24 riders being first timers. Windy conditions on the first two days made the dressage test even more demanding with Belgium's Karin Donckers leading the way in a tightly packed leader board. With ground conditions absolutely perfect the cross country course rode well with 55 completing without jumping penalties and 16 going inside the time. In the show jumping phase, William Fox-Pitt and Idalgo put the pressure on the top 3 with an immaculate clear round.
